KEEP QUIET…and stop pretending to be what you are not, GBM tells Lungu

GEOFFREY Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) has told President Edgar Lungu to stop pretending to be what he is not.

And GBM has questioned where the President Lungu is getting money to fund the blotted entourage he travelled with to Israel.

GBM, the UPND vice-president, said yesterday that it was laughable that President Lungu traveled to Israel and issued statements that were contrary to his deeds back home, citing the harassment of Post Newspapers proprietor Fred M’membe, his wife Mutinta and lawyer Nchima Nchito using state agents and institutions.

After visiting the tomb where Jesus Christ was buried in Jerusalem, President Lungu stated that his faith and the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation had been renewed.

“As I offered my prayers, I rededicated my life to follow my Saviour and recommitted my family into God’s hands. I also thanked God Almighty for having brought me to the Office of President at such a time as this. I humbled myself and asked for more wisdom as I lead the great nation of Zambia. For the Christians across the world, today is Ash Wednesday as we begin our 40 day Lenten journey and pray for the humility to walk back into the Open Arms of God,” President Lungu posted on his Facebook page. “On this Journey, Jesus Christ teaches us to give, pray and fast in secret, and in this way to give glory to God. In the book of Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18, the words of scripture says ‘Your father, who sees all that is done in secret, will reward you’. Let us all renew our faith before God’s throne of mercy and draw ourselves closer to God. May God’s mercy continue to abide on our great nation even as we reflect on His love for Zambia. Countrymen and women, in this season let us reflect on 2 Chronicles 7:14: ‘If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their Land.'”

But GBM said President Lungu must not play with God by claiming to be a committed Christian when his deeds were contrary to what Christianity demanded.

He every Zambian was aware of President Lungu’s hatred towards Dr M’membe and The Post as well as his manoeuvres to completely destroy the newspaper and its owner.

“Let him just keep quiet and stop pretending to be what he’s not. No real Christian can do things Edgar is doing. He has already stepped on a lot of people’s toes. The people of this country are dying of hunger, the economy has totally collapsed, he has failed to uplift the living standards of all Zambian and then he goes to the tomb and starts praying hoping that Jesus Christ will hear him; he will not hear him at all. Charity begins at home so first of all, he should make the people of Zambia happy and then after that, he rededicates his life to God,” GBM said. “He should stop harassing the media and the opposition whom he is oppressing day and night. Look at the over 1,000 Post employees he sent on the streets! He should find ways of making them happy. Look at how they have launched attacks on Fred M’membe for telling the people of Zambia the truth! He should stop all this nonsense then God will hear him.

He is just on honeymoon, so let him just keep quiet and concentrate on his honeymoon and he must know that the luxury he is enjoying now is short-lived. Why is he persecuting Fred M’membe for simply telling us the truth that we have a corrupt government in place?”

President Lungu travelled with eight ministers and some business people to Israel for a five-day working visit.

Those in the entourage include ministers of foreign affairs, agriculture, commerce, energy, tourism, water development and environment, transport and health.

President Lungu told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that his entire cabinet wanted to travel with him to Israel.

But GBM challenged President Lungu to explain why he was wasting taxpayers’ money on trips that were not bearing any fruit for the nation.

“The man is just on honeymoon and I think we Zambians are now paying the price for electing wrong people in government. He has gone to Israel on a honeymoon and he must be condemned,” GBM said.

“How can the whole government, the whole of a president invite eight ministers to escort him to go to see his doctors in Israel? Why didn’t he just go alone? Beyond that, it’s not only ministers, ministers also come with delegations, their advances, what we call advance party, which is also a huge expense but he decides to ignore all that, he is a kamwendo munjila President, who always wants to fly to destinations of his choice at the expense of the Zambian people.”

And GBM said President Lungu was hoodwinking foreigners and the international community that all was well in Zambia when the people were crying.

President Lungu, on Tuesday posted on his Facebook page that world leaders had the responsibility to ensure that no calamity was allowed to happen while they watched.

He posted this after he toured Israel’s Yad-Vashem memorial park and museum in Jerusalem on February 28.

“Leaders in today’s world have a responsibility to ensure that never again should a calamity be allowed to happen to mankind while they sit and watch,” wrote President Lungu.

But GBM said President Lungu should refrain from making statements full of pretence as they were offensive to the nation.

“Lungu is trying to hoodwink foreigners and the international community that all is well back home yet things are not okay here; every Zambian is crying. He is the only person and his minions that are enjoying because the economy of this country is bad, the economy has totally collapsed,” said GBM./SM/JC
