CHARLES Manyuchi yesterday left for Singapore to defend his WBC title against Quddratillo Xabibulo Ogri Abduqaxorov next Saturday.
Manyuchi’s team of manager Chris Malunga and coach Mike Zulu left abord South African Airways around 09:00 hours from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
Malunga said shortly before departure that he was confident the Zimbabwean-born pugilist will defend his title.
“I would like to assure both the nations of Zimbabwe and Zambia that we are ready for the upcoming title defence by Charles Manyuchi in Singapore. Charles has been in camp and has prepared adequately for the fight,” said Malunga.
“The coach has assured me that Charles has been responding well to training and is very ready for the fight. I have also personally attended training sessions and seen what has been happening. Charles is a very disciplined and talented boxer and he is not taking this fight lightly. He does not underrate any opponent but will ensure that he defeats him.”
And Manyuchi promised not to disappoint his fans, pledging to do his best to get a win.
“I know that I will be fighting away from home but I will not be intimidated. This is an opportunity for me to show the world what I am made of,” said Manyuchi.
