ZESCO United coach Zlatko Krmpotic says he is not satisfied with the 2-2 draw result against minnows Le Messager De Ngozi of Burundi despite his team having qualified to the next round of the CAF Confederation cup via a 4-2 aggregate score line.
And Zambian champions Zanaco have qualified to the lucrative group stage of the CAF Champions League on away goals rule after a 0-0 draw against Yanga FC of Tanzania in the return match at the Heroes stadium in Lusaka this afternoon.
Zesco, who reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, were carrying a 2-0 victory from the first leg played in Ndola a week ago but found the going tough in the return match of the first round in Bujumbura where they could only manage a draw to qualify to the next round on a 4-2 aggregate.
Speaking after the match, Krmpotic who took over from George Lwandamina in January, said he was satisfied with the overall result, especially in the first leg, but not the return where his side allowed opponents to score two goals from the only two chances they created.
“We respect this team, from many opportunities we had, the opponent just shot twice and scored. And we had some problem…We played well in Ndola although the match was very difficult. We are targeting the group stage. I am not satisfied with the result here, we just gave them two chances and they scored. I am satisfied with the result in Ndola but here…” said Krmpotic.
His opposite number Momclo Medic said he was not disappointed with the performance of his young side despite the elimination.
“We lost the game away 2-0; it’s very difficult to do something against Zesco. They are a very god team. It’s good experience for everyone…Zesco has very good players in all areas of the field,” said Medic.
Zanaco, on the other hand, have eliminated George Lwandamina’s Yanga FC who have been dropped to the Confederation cup.
