ZAMBIA top golfer Madalisto Mutiya automatically qualifies to play in the 2017 Zambia Sugar Open, says organising committee chairman Roy Penney.
Penney, who was speaking during Nissan Zambia’s donation of $10,000 towards the hosting of the tournament this morning, also said part of the proceeds from the Sugar Open would go towards developing the sport at amateur level.
“There will be 144 golfers in total. There are also slots for Zambian professional and amateur golfers and Madalitso Mutiya automatically qualifies to participate in the tournament,” said Penney.
“So far we have 47 sponsors who have come on board and part of the proceeds from this tournament will be used to develop golf in the country.”
The Zambia Sugar Open, the country’s most prestigious golf tournament, will be held at the Lusaka Golf Club next month.
