STRIKER Idris Mbombo will miss Zesco United’s trip to Nigeria for the CAF Confederation cup pre-group stage first leg match against Enugu Rangers because of a suspension following two yellow cards he received in the last two games.
Zesco is sweating over the possibility of missing four of its key players for the Nigeria outing.
Defender Simon Silwimba, midfielder Misheck Chaila and striker Jackson Mwanza are all out injured and racing against time to be fit in time for the trip this weekend.
If Mwanza, who was injured in last Thursday’s Charity Shield semi-final win over Power Dynamos, fails to recover in time for the trip and Mbombo suspended, this will leave coach Zlatko Krmpotic with inconsistent Jesse Were as the only recognised striker.
“This tournament (Charity Shield) came at a bad time because we have Jackson, Simon and Chaila who are injured. Mbombo is also suspended but this is football; we must prepare other players to play in Nigeria,” Krmpotic said.
He said he had knowledge of the Nigerians having watched videos of their recent matches.
“The game in Nigeria is a very important game for us. I have their two games against Zamalek and the first round game in Algeria against JS Saoura. I know something about Enugu but this is not important to me. I want to play my tactics and if we play the way we played today (Sunday), we won’t have any problems,” said Krmpotic.
“Nigeria is a footballing country. Enugu are Nigerian champions and are a good team and we must go there with respect, but I believe Zesco has a chance to qualify to the group stage.”
