ZRU declares Zambia ready for Africa Rugby tournament

ZAMBIA Rugby Union (ZRU) general secretary Colonel Francis Chitambo says the national 15s team is ready for the Africa Cup qualifiers scheduled for Lusaka.

He also says the union has an $8,000 deficit in the budget for the tournament also known as Africa Rugby Bronze Cup which runs from April 23-29.

Speaking during the launch of the Africa cup group one C south tournament in Lusaka on Thursday, Chitambo said Zambia would play the opening match against Rwanda.

“I can say that the team is ready. The team has been together for over two years and the coach only made a few additions so I can confirm that the team is ready,” Chitambo said. “The total budget is $52,500 but as of today, we have managed to raise $44,000 and we have a deficit of $ 8,500.”

The tournament comprises six countries split into two groups of three teams each. The two groups are named North and South.

South group  hosts Zambia, Rwanda and Mauritius while the group North has Nigeria, Algeria and Cameroon.

The two group winners will be weighed against each other on points and goals.
