ROMA Town FC on Sunday handed PPAZ a 5-1 bashing to win the FAZ/Parmalat Futsal Super division for the first time in three years.
UNZA FC beat Standard Chartered 3-0 but the victory was not enough to save the monks from joining the bankers in relegation following the last series of premiership games.
The ‘Italians’ had to wait for the final game of the season to be confirmed champions given the stiff competition they faced from arch-rivals Lamasat International who have finished in second place.
For several weeks during the season, the two top teams had been separated by a point and frequently exchanged the first slot of the log.
In Roma Town FC’s final league game, two braces from captain Kenneth Chulu and Hamudi Ahmed won the game for champions after Kelvin Kangwa opened the scores.
Suzyo Mwale scored the face-saver for PPAZ who had finished in eighth position.
In a post match interview, Chulu said the season had been tough but was glad that their hard work had paid off.
“We are very happy to win the league, it feels good to be champions again after three seasons,” said Chulu.
“It has been a very tough season but we were determined, we have been working very hard and in the end, we are champions.”
In other games, runners-up Lamasat International beat Oriental Quarries 6-4 for the latter to finish in third place.
CSJ FC triumphed over Atletico Lusaka 1-0 while Automotive FC also concluded the season on a winning note, thumping Lusaka United 3-1.
