SOUTH African golfer Oliver Bekker has won the 2017 Zambia Sugar Open after maintaining his position on the leaderboard.
Bekker led the tournament on 18 under par over night from round three before he continued with the lead in the final on Sunday.
His good performance allowed him to pick one more point in the final round, elevating him to 19 under par with his country mate Jared Harvey tracking him at 17 points.
He, however, noted that the golf course had some patches which were not in their best form, making some strokes to go off target.
“ The greens are a bit grainy and you can’t give them a good wrap. At little speed, they go a bit off the target which makes it hard to make putts,” said Bekker after the game.
Zambia’s only hope at the championship was cut short when Madalitso Muthiya failed to catch up with Bekker after he only picked up a point, allowing him to finish the tournament at 7 under par.
