Unknown people shoot dead chief Muchinda

UNKNOWN people have shot dead chief Muchinda Evans Mukosha of Serenje district and left his wife in critical condition.

Central Province police commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi confirmed the shooting that occurred at 02:00 hours today.

Yes, we received a report of a shooting in which male Evans Mukosha, 53, and his wife, Dorothy Mukosha aged 52, also of the same residence, was also shot in the ribs and is currently admitted at Serenje district hospital,

Kamukoshi explained.

“The prevailing situation is that male Evans Mukosha was a contender to the throne of senior chief Muchinda, he was not senior chief. The chiefdom has been having chieftainship wrangle and as such the matter went to court and judgment was passed which advised the Lala traditional council to identify a chief to be installed as senior chief Muchinda.”

Kamukoshi said police had instituted investigations into the matter and that they had potential suspects.

And Shine Mukosha, the late chief’s brother, said chief Muchinda was shot by unknown people who entered his palace after midnight.

“I wish to confirm the death of senior chief Muchinda of Serenje district, who was shot dead by unknown people in the early hours of today. That was around 00 [midnight] to 02:00 hours. The assailants who entered the house shot dead the chief. He was shot three times while his wife, who was rushed to Serenje hospital and is in critical condition, was shot in the stomach and the bullet has not yet been removed,” Mukosha said.

He asked the police to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.

“We are highly devastated as a family and we can only appeal to the police to arrest and bring the culprits to book. We suspect this could be as a result of chiefdom wrangles because we have had family succession wrangles but we will wait for the outcome of the police investigations on this matter,” said Mukosha.
