ZANACO assistant coach Dabid Chilufya has described the 2017 CAF Champions’ League group stage draws as ‘just fine.’
Zanaco has been handed a tough draw that comprises eight time winners Al Ahly of Egypt, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco and Coton Sport of Cameroon.
The Zambian champions have struggled against Arab opponents in the past and many fear the trend may be repeated even this time.
Reacting to the draw, Chilufya, who is standing in for head coach Mumamba Numba, said having watched both North African teams at the same stage against Zesco United last year, his technical bench was convinced that they were all beatable.
“The draw is very fine, this time around Arabs are beaten so there is no pressure. We saw them when they came to play Zesco United. We are going to get some videos and watch them. We know it will be a different ball-game but we know their setup and the play so it will be easy,” Chilufya said.
He said the team had experienced players with international exposure that can handle any amount of pressure at any level.
“We have experienced players in the team. They have played in the national team and have played outside so they have no pressure. But maybe to those who are coming in, but looking at Zanaco, we have players that can catch up with the Arabs,” said Chilufya.”
Zanaco starts the campaign against Ahly in Cairo on May 13.
