THE UPND in Lusaka has written to Lusaka Province Police commissioner Nelson Phiri notifying him of their intentions to hold a peaceful protest to mark a month of Hakainde Hichilema’s.
According to a letter signed by UPND secretary general Stephen Katuka, the UPND intend to hold the said peaceful protest on Thursday next week.
“Notice of intention to have a peaceful demonstration. We, the United Party for National Development and as enshrined in the Public Order Act would like to notify your valued office that we intend to hold a peaceful protest match in remembrance of the brutal attack on our President’s residence on the 10th of April 2017 and also his one month in detention,”
stated Katuka’s letter dated May 10.
He stated that the party had organised about 200 party members to carry out the peaceful protest.
“We intend to hold the said peaceful protest on Thursday, May 18th May 2017. We will match from the UPND secretariat along 83A Street where the secretariat is situated to Kafue round about and back during non-peak hours (between 10 to 12 hours). The number involved will be about 200 people. In view of the above sir, we seek your officer’s in terms of security. As a party, we shall also provide enough marshals to support your officers as attached,”
