Wedson eyes COSAFA semis

COACH Wedson Nyirenda will be seeking to reach the knockout stages of a competitive competition when his Chipolopolo side take on Botswana in the Castle COSAFA Cup in the quarter final in Rastenburg this afternoon.

Zambia must redeem herself against the unfancied ‘Zebras’ an opponent they have triumphed over in the past meetings in the regional competition.

Nyirenda, who has drafted three Under-20 stars in the team, believes his charges captained by Donashano Malama have what it takes to beat Botswana and book a ticket to the semi-finals.

“The Under-20 boys have fitted in well. They understand the philosophy and what we are trying to do, I think we will win and reach the semi-finals,” said Nyirenda.

Power Dynamos goal keeper Allan Chibwe or Charles Mweemba may start in goal while Malama is expected to man the right back with Power Dynamos’ Lawrence Chungu expected to man the left back position.

Adrian Chama of Green Buffaloes and Isaac Shamujompa are expected to partner in central defence.

In the midfield role, Jack Chirwa or Salulani Phiri are expected to anchor the defensive midfield with either Paul Katema or Godfrey Ngwenya operating in the creative areas.

Upfront Conlyde Luchanga of Lusaka Dynamos and Lubinda Mundia are likely to lead the attack with South Africa based Musonda Mwape or Nkhwazi’s Justin Shonga as options.
