ZAMBIA Under-20 coach Beston Chambeshi says the triumphed Under-17 national team must be kept together.
Chambeshi, who steered the U-20 to the quarter finals of the FIFA world cup in June after winning the AfCON and the COSAFA earlier, said in his congratulatory message to the Mumamba Numba-led technical bench that winning the COSAFA just after a few weeks of assembling the team was a remarkable achievement.
“The boys deserve to be recommended for that historic win. It’s a remarkable achievement and I call it historic because we are talking about boys that have come from different backgrounds with no international football to their careers but go all the way to win the trophy,” Chambeshi said.
He said the future of football in the country looked bright as long as the team was kept busy together.
“We should not throw these boys away. We need to keep these boys together. Let them continue playing friendlies and other international matches together. We already have one base of the U-20 together, now we have the U-17, it shows that we are progressing well, if we keep them together, we will have a strong future,” Chambeshi said.
He also praised Numba and his assistant Charles Bwale.
“The coaches have done a great job, to put together boys who have just played in academies and some of them in schools’ football in just weeks and take them to Mauritius to win the trophy without losing a match is something commendable. The coaches have done really well and they deserve to continue developing these boys,” said Chambeshi.
