ZAMBIA national team assistant coach Aggrey Chiyangi says the team played under pressure to qualify to the TOTAL 2018 CHAN tournament to be hosted in Kenya.

And South Africa’s assistant coach Thabo Senong saluted his young players’ performance against an ‘experienced’ Chipolopolo side.

Zambia on Saturday beat South Africa 2-0 at Levy Mwanawasa stadium to qualify on 4-2 aggregate score over two legs having drawn 2-2 in the reverse fixture in South Africa.

After missing a litany of scoring opportunities in the first half, Zambia only found the net in the last 10 minutes through in-form Nkwazi striker Justin Shonga whose double confirmed South Africa’s fate on the day.

Chipolopolo has come under fire in the recent past and was booed by Lusaka supporters in the nil-all draw against Ethiopia at Nkoloma stadium for the lacklustre performances.

We were under pressure to win this game, the boys wanted to win that’s why we played like that in the first half but after talking to the players at half time, we came out and scored. It is good for the players,

Chiyangi said.

Captain Ziyo Tembo echoed his boss’s comments saying the team had pressure but credited his colleagues for working together to qualify the country to a third CHAN tournament.

Zambia will be playing in a third tournament where they would be looking to go a step further, having won bronze at the inaugural tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire and the quarter finals in Rwanda last year.
