DEFENDING champions Zanaco will this afternoon seek to move one slot up the FAZ/MTN Super League table when they take on struggling Real Nakonde in the border town.
As of Week 24, the two teams have contrasting but worthwhile objectives; Nakonde coach Mathews Njovu is striving hard to find a formula for his team to move out of the relegation zone while Zanaco’s Mumamba Numba is, possibly, bothered on how his depleted side can defend the league title.
Whatever the case, this re-scheduled week 13 match is an opportunity for either team to change its fortunes.
Nineteenth-placed Real Nakonde, with only three victories so far this season, could go to 18 points if they force a home win.
However, sixth-positioned Zanaco would obviously not like to be tainted, at least not in Nakonde.
‘The Bankers’ could receive some lifeline from its stellar quartet of captain Ziyo Tembo, Ernest Mbewe, first-choice goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata and Augustine Mulenga who returned from national team duties.
It is, however, doubtful that Mulenga will feature in today’s game as he was stretchered off the pitch at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola during the Zambia’s 2-0 CHAN qualifier win over South Africa on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Kitwe’s Arthur Davies Stadium lights up in another week 13 fixture as league leaders Zesco United aims to take its points to 47 with victory over fourth-placed Power Dynamos who have 41.
