SHEPOLOPOLO coach Albert Kachinga has described the draw for the 2017 COSAFA Championship as fair. Kachinga said during the morning workout at Edwin Imboela Stadium that his lasses were geared for the regional championship to be staged in Bulawayo from September 13-24. Zambia has been drawn in Group A alongside Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Malawi.
“There is no easy game these days, it is a fair draw but we have to work hard so that we can pull through the group stage,” Kachinga said.
“There is no team that we can say is an easy opponent because that is not going to work out. All we need to do is work hard and make sure that we do not underrate any team. All the teams that are there deserve to be there, for them to be in the tournament, it means that they are good.”
Kachinga has 27 players in camp and will lead his charges on September 13 in the opening fixture against Malawi.
The opening match will see Namibia take on Botswana before two clashes in Group A – the Zambia/Malawi clash and the game between Zimbabwe and Madagascar .
All of the matches in Group A will take place at Barbour Fields Stadium, while all Group B games will be at Luveve Stadium. Group C will be evenly split between the two venues.
Matches will be played in a round-robin format with the pool winners and best-placed runner-up advancing to the semifinals scheduled for September 21.
The final will be played on September 24, with the bronze-medal game played the day before.
