A POLICE officer has told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that the six UPND cadres who were arrested at the Lusaka High Court last year rioted and damaged government property. This is in a matter where some UPND cadres were arrested for alleged riotous behaviour. Testifying in the case before Lusaka magistrate Felix Kaoma, detective sergeant Kabwisa Lyamba from Lusaka Division Headquarters said due to the damage caused to government property, he arrested and charged the six with the offence of riotous behaviour.
Lyamba said on the material day, the six allegedly rioted and damaged government property among them a Toyota Corolla, registration number GRZ 208CJ. He said the value of the damage caused was K700. Lyamba also said stones were found at the scene. He further said he prepared a photographic album with seven photographs. Lyamba further told magistrate Kaoma that under warn and caution, the six accused persons denied the charge.
In this case, Remmy Mukoba and five others are charged with riotous behaviour. It is alleged that the six on December 16, 2016 rioted at the High Court premises after a case in which UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema was challenging the election of President Edgar Lungu was adjourned
