Tanzanian govt sues Zambian firm over rental arrears

THE Tanzanian government has sued a Zambian firm in the Lusaka High Court claiming US$ 12,600 rental arrears. In an affidavit signed by the Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Zambia Grace Mujuma , the applicant cited Donald George Mwakamele and  McDonald Liveline Technology Zambia Limited as first and second respondents.

Mujuma stated that on October 25, 2013, the applicant and the respondents entered into a lease agreement relating to stand No.131 Mwambula road Jesmodine, Lusaka.

She submitted that by the said lease, the respondents agreed to pay US$600 (K5,500) per month.

“That notwithstanding, the respondents have defaulted on remitting rentals and service charges and there is outstanding the sum of US$12,600,” the claim read in part. She stated that the respondents in the past undertook to settle the rental arrears and vacate the house but that to no avail.

Mujuma submitted further that all efforts to have the said rentals have  failed.

She is therefore seeking the court’s indulgence.
