Petauke cops arrest 6 over murder

POLICE in Petauke have  arrested six people in connection with the murder of an 82-year-old woman whom they accused of being behind the death of their relative.
Eastern Province police commissioner Alex Chilufya confirmed the arrests.

“We have today afternoon, 4 October 2017, arrested six criminal suspects of Nyampande chiefdom in Petauke District for suspected murder of a senior citizen, F/Andisela Lungu, aged 82 years, of Village Chinjili , chief Nyampande, District Petauke. The brutal murder incident occurred on 3rd October 2017 in Petauke, and the victim was pelted with stones and hit with other blunt objects, including sticks, used to inflict pain and grievous bodily injuries resulting in Victim’s death. The victim was suspected of bewitching a relative of the suspects which relative has since died,”

Chilufya said.

He said the body of the victim was by press time in Petauke hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

“The following suspects are now in police custody as investigations are ongoing:
Headman Chinjili, aged 44 years, Mary Njobvu aged 18 years, Frederick Daka aged 55 years, Harrison Mwale aged 31 years, Alick Kapele aged 24 years, and Jaston Daka (age not given); all of Nyamphande Village headquarters,” said Chilufya.
