Police yet to charge Lusaka man who shot girlfriend dead

POLICE in Lusaka are yet to charge the Lusaka man who allegedly shot dead his girlfriend and wounded his two-year-old daughter in the process.

Nshinka Kaputu of Meanwood Ibex shot dead Precious Mangesana, whom he had a child with, on Thursday night after she went to his house to get the daughter.

Medical personnel at Fairview Hospital successfully removed a projective that was stuck on the neck of the baby yesterday.

“We are yet to charge him (Kaputu). We cannot charge him now until the postmortem is done,” said Police spokesperson Esther Katongo in an interview with The Mast.

According to Precious’ relatives who spoke anonymously, the Multichoice Zambia employee had called her mother before being shot saying Kaputu had refused to release their daughter and that she was ready to die for her.

It is not yet known what dispute the couple had, but family sources have indicated that they had a troubled relationship, alleging that the man was always threatening to kill Precious.
Efforts are being made to speak to Kaputu’s relatives who remains in police custody.
