FORMER justice minister Dr Ngosa Simbyakula has denied authoring a document allegedly used by Lusaka lawyer Martha Mushipe to incite violence in 2015.
Dr Simbyakula, who is Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States, testified before Lusaka resident magistrate Felix Kaoma in a matter where Mushipe is charged with seditious practice. The former justice minister is alleged to have authored a document titled “A strategy to dominate UPND 2015 and beyond”, but he denied authoring it.
He told court that the said document was fake because he did not author it and that he did not know about it.
Dr Simbyakula further narrated that at one time, a journalist, Charles Mafa, in the company of another journalist, approached him with the same document to seek his reaction.
“When I was approached, I told them I could not comment on the document because I did not author it and I did not know anything about it,” added Dr Simbyakula.
Previously, a Patriotic Front sympathiser, Emmanuel Chilekwa, testified that he attended a meeting chaired by Mushipe in 2015 whose agenda, in his view, was to incite violence. He had told court that the document he saw had the name of Dr Simbyakula, among two other names, on the cover page as authors.
According to Chilekwa, he was a member of ‘Team Sylvia’ WhatsApp group as well as the UPND media team before defecting to PF.
The matter comes up on October 25 for continued trial.
