LUSAKA High Court judge Susan Wanjelani has found lawyer Keith Mukata and his lover Charmaine Musonda with a case to answer over the murder of Namakambwa Kalilakwenda and has placed them on their defence.
Mukata, who is UPND Chilanga member of parliament, and Musonda are alleged to have shot dead Kalilakwenda, 63, who was an employee of Men in Black Security Company and was on the material day manning AKM Legal Practitioners, the law firm belonging to Mukata at house number 4, Alex Masala Close in Rhodes park.
Ruling on case to answer, judge Wanjelani said it was her view that the prosecution established a prima facie case against the accused persons.
“I am so indebted with submissions from both parties and it is safe to say that the prosecution has proved this case beyond reasonable doubt to warrant me placing the accused persons on defence,” she said.
Mukata and Musonda’s lead defence lawyer Eric Silwamba said his clients have opted to remain silent but would adduce evidence through other witnesses.
The matter was adjourned to November 14 for opening of defence and the defence team has indicated that they would conclude on that day.
