ZESCO United coach Tenant Chembo says winning the Super League title was not easy as it was very competitive.
In an interview after his team beat Mufulira Wanderers FC 4-2 to emerge victorious in the tightly contested Super League winner decider match at Levy Mwanwasa Stadium, Chembo said the win had brought a ‘good feeling’ to his team and the supporters.
“It is a good feeling. For everyone, the Zesco family, it’s been a long time coming. Finally we have achieved our objective. It was competitive; credit must go to the administrators,” Chembo said.
He, however, hinted that the coming season would be even more competitive.
“The season that has gone was very competitive, the coming one, expect more than this,” said Chembo.
Zesco opened the score board barely two minutes after kickoff but Wanderers rubbed off the lead a minute later before Zesco supporters could finish celebrating the goal.
The fast-paced game got even more exciting when Wanderers took the lead after scoring their second goal.
Later, Zesco found the back of the net.
It was punch for punch and going into half time, Zesco had already taken the lead after taking advantage of the weak defence system of the once ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers.
This is Zesco’s fifth Super League title for they have also won it in 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2015.
The match certainly was the instance of tables turning around as in 1995, Zesco was sent to Division One as Mighty lifted the trophy.
