A 23-YEAR-OLD man of Siavonga has appeared in the magistrate court for stealing his girlfriend’s remote controls. Appearing before Siavonga magistrate Edward Banda was Clever Mweemba of Malata village in Simamba’s chiefdom. The accused is charged with a count of burglary and theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Mweemba on November 12 this year broke into his girlfriend Losa Kaya’s house and stole two remote controls valued at K200. The accused understood the charge but denied committing the offence.
“Yes I understand the charge but I didn’t steal the remote controls. I would also like to explain something to this court. On the night of 12th November when I went to see my girlfriend at her residence, I caught her with another man making love in the house. Shortly after the man I found in the house ran away, she accused me of stealing remote controls just because I was drank,” Mweemba told the court.
The court therefore recorded a plea of not guilty and adjourned the matter to yesterday for commencement of trial.
The accused is remanded in custody at Siavonga Police Station.
