MOPANI Copper Mines will host the next four editions of the Zambia Open at the Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe. And former chief executive officer Danny Callow has tipped Zambian top golfer Madalitso Muthiya to win a major tournament in the near future.
Callow, who was instrumental in redeveloping the golf club to its current state-of-the art status in 2014, disclosed this in an interview. Callow said as part of golf development, Nkana Golf Club was sponsoring some vulnerable children from its academy. The club, in conjunction with Mopani, has established an academy of 200 children from vulnerable communities, mainly Kandabwe where the golf course is located.
“Yes, it’s true we will be hosting the Open, that’s correct. But also the most important for us is the academy because we have 200 vulnerable children playing golf. And some of those kids are actually being sponsored with their education. And the sponsorship is being done by the club,” Callow said.
The club has engaged Muthiya to coach the academy.
“Zambia has a very good player in Madalitso. I am sure he will win big things in future. He is really good and we hope the lads from the academy can be inspired by his presence,” said Callow
