NATIONAL Democratic Congress consultant and PF Roan member of parliament Chishimba Kambwili has sued the Daily Nation Newspaper and its proprietor Richard Sakala in the Lusaka High Court for defamation.
In a statement of claim filed in the principal registry on December 11, Kambwili stated that the Daily Nation newspaper number 1778 of September 26, 2017 and issue number 1784 of October 3, 2017 published false and malicious articles captioned “KAMBWILI IMPLICATED IN US$4M MONGU STADIUM DEAL” and “KAMBWILI ARREST ORDEAL”.
The former information minister also cited Sakala, reporters Oscar Malipenga, Aaron Chiyanzo and Simon Muntemba.
The Daily Nation in its edition number 1778 quoted an entrepreneur, Munir Zulu, a PF cadre, saying Kambwili had been implicated in the tender for the construction of the US$4 million ultra-modern 20,000 seater Mongu Stadium in Western Province when he served as a Minister of Information.
In another publication, the Daily Nation reported that Kambwili was shoved down with a gun to his head, handcuffed and bundled in a police van by South African anti-theft and anti-robbery unit as a suspected burglar in Johannesburg.
Kambwili further stated that in issue number 1778 of September 26, 2017, the newspaper published a false and malicious article by PF media director Sunday Chanda under the caption “KAMBWILI A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR.”
Kambwili is claiming compensatory damages for libel, mental strain and anguish arising from the false, malicious and serious libellous allegations without just cause or excuse.
And Kambwili is seeking an injunction to restrain Daily Nation and Sakala and his reporters through their servants, agents and employees or otherwise from publishing libellous publications against him, any other relief the court might deem fit, appropriate and costs.
