DROPPED Chipolopolo striker Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba says he is not bitter with coach Wedson Nyirenda for leaving him out of the 23-man final squad for the CHAN tournament that kicks off this Friday in Morrocco.
Kampamba was a surprise omission from Nyirenda’s final team alongside defender Jimmy Nakena and goalkeeper Kenny Mumba.
Prior to being called to camp, Kampamba was in hot form, scoring and creating crucial goals that guided his team, Nkana, to a third place finish in the MTN/FAZ Super League, subsequently earning Nkana a place in this year’s CAF Confederation cup.
In an interview, Kampamba said he had given it all in training during camp but said the coach’s decision was final when it came to team selection.
“I am not bitter, the coach picks the team and he has not picked me. I will continue to fight, I am still young and still learning a lot of things in football. I am always learning and aiming to be that good player at a higher level,” Kampamba said.
“It’s a decision that I have to accept because the coach decides who he wants in the team so his decision is final and as a footballer, you have to accept and work hard. I will continue working hard hoping that another chance will come. I worked hard in training and will continue working hard. I am not sad or bitter and I wish the team all the best in the tournament.”
Alex Ng’onga, Martin Phiri, Chanda Mushili, Friday Samu and Lazarous Kambole are the strikers Nyirenda will be banking on for goals when Zambia takes to the field for the first game on Sunday.
