AL MASRY coach Hossam Hassan says his side wants to get a comfortable victory over Green Buffaloes when the two teams meet in tomorrow’s CAF Confederation cup preliminary match to make the return leg in Lusaka a mere formality.
The match will be played at Port Said stadium, 200 kilometres from the capital Cairo after a six-year absence when the stadium was closed in 2012 following the death of 72 fans resulting from crowd trouble during a domestic match between Al Masry and Cairo giants Al Ahly.
Hassan, the legendary former Egyptian star, feels returning to their home ground after such a lengthy absence will give his side, currently third in the Egyptian league, additional motivation to crush Buffaloes.
“…we shift our attention to the CAF Confederation cup. We are ready and poised to grab a positive result to make the return leg in Zambia a mere formality,” Hassan said ahead of tomorrow evening’s match.
“Returning to play in Port Said will be an additional motivation for us. Our supporters will add their charm and will lead us to get the result we are aiming for. I am positive we will reach the next round.”
Masry have experienced attacking duo in Burkinabe’s Aristide Bance and top scorer and Egyptian star Ahmed Gomaa.
The winner after two legs will have a date with either Tanzania’s Simba or Gerndamerrie of Djibout.
The other two Zambian teams involved in continental football are Champions League envoys Zesco United who take on JUK of Zanzibar away from home and Zanaco who lost at home to Gambia AF while Nkana is on bye in the preliminaries and will join the CAF Confederation Cup in the next round where they will play either Onze Createurs of Mali or CR Belouizdad of Algeria.
