Nkomeshya under state capture, says Chishimba

CHIEFTAINESS Nkomeshya of the Soli people is under State capture, says United Progressive People president Saviour Chishimba.

Speaking on UNZA Radio’s Lusaka Star Programme yesterday, Chishimba said his party was “thunderstruck and deeply troubled by the credible intelligence information it received on the State conspiracy with intent to lay a siege on chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II and the Soli people”.

He said he had evidence showing that State House was desperately seeking mechanisms to take away the land from the Soli people and give it to the Chinese and ‘mafias’ that had now successfully captured the Zambian State through the infamous corruption industry.

“We, in the United Progressive People (UPP), are thunderstruck and deeply troubled by the credible intelligence information we have just received on the state conspiracy with intent to lay a siege on Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II and the Soli people,” Chishimba said.

“The State capture of Her Royal Highness, the queen of the Soli people, has been hatched from State House, which has now become the centre for the advancement of Chinese interests and corruption. Our evidence shows that State House is desperately seeking mechanisms to take away the land from the Soli people and give it to the Chinese and mafias that have now successfully captured the Zambian State through the infamous corruption industry, which was firmly entrenched in 2011 after the hosting of the luncheon for Chinese nationals at State House immediately after the electoral victory.”

The outspoken opposition leader further said his party was aware that the first stage of the State siege upon Soliland was the giving back of Shibuyunji area to chief Shakumbila of the Ila people and further giving another chunk of land to chieftainess Chiawa of the Goba people.

He urged the aforesaid chiefs to never allow the State to interfere in ancient matters of kingdoms (chiefdoms), which were far older than modern States.

“We are also aware that the scheme to take away more land is underway and to facilitate this process, a meeting will soon be called for the three chiefs in order to hoodwink the trio into agreeing to the new drawn-up map of chiefdoms in the area. The impending meeting is meant to intimidate Her Royal Highness Queen Nkomeshya, who they further intend to take to court for her expected refusal to give consent to mafia-style of State management,”

Chishimba said.

“We call for the immediate cessation of this ploy, which is only meant to serve the interests of the corrupt few and the Chinese…We have confidence in the wisdom of the three royal highnesses and their ability to live side by side in peace and preserve the heritage of the three peoples, namely, Solis, Ilas and Gobas.”

He said the trio ought to know that the land the State was plotting to give them would afterwards be grabbed from them too and be allotted to the Chinese and mafias.

Chishimba cautioned the State against intimidating chiefs on land matters. He said the struggle for independence was about land and giving it away was “letting go of our people’s inheritance” for what he called a day’s bowl of soup.

“The amount of information on how chiefs are being forced to give away land at ‘gun point’ is overwhelming and worrisome. Chiefs must stand strong and oppose all schemes by mafias who are grabbing away land from the people in the name of the State. The struggle for independence was about land and the giving away of our people’s inheritance for a day’s bowl of soup is the most unforgivable crime of the State against the people of Zambia – it is also a complete loss of sovereignty for which freedom fighters died,” said Chishimba.
