PF secretary general Davies Mwila has condemned attacks by suspected UPND cadres for allegedly torching a vehicle belonging to a councillor of Nampundwe who recently defected from UPND to PF.
Mwila said the attacks on Eucridy Mwiinga showed the levels of desperation by the opposition UPND and was aimed at sending a message to would-be defectors to PF.
“Patriotic Front (PF) condemns the attacks on Mr. Mwiinga by suspected UPND cadres in Nampundwe last night. Mr. Mwiinga exercised his right to resign from the opposition UPND to join Patriotic Front and must not be victimised by anyone. We ask all Zambians to condemn this violence and further call on the opposition UPND leadership to take responsibility by counselling their supporters,”
Mwila said in a statement issued by PF media director Sunday Chanda.
He condemned the “gross actions of UPND cadres” saying their intolerance was “gravely disgusting”.
Mwila has since called on the Zambia Police to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book. He said Mwiinga, who relinquished his position as UPND councilor, in Nampundwe had since reported the matter to police, expressing not only his disappointment at his former colleagues but that he was shaken with fear.
Mwila said the cadres not only torched Mwiinga’s automobile but also broke into his house and stole his laptop and an undisclosed amount of money.
Mwiinga early last week defected from UPND and publicly announced his decision to join Patriotic Front.
