NKANA and Zanaco this afternoon meet in the Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield semi-final at Nkoloma Stadium.
The match, which was supposed to have been played this Saturday, has been brought forward due to Nkana’s involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup first round match against CR Belouizdad in Algeria where they are expected to travel immediately after today’s match.
The game in Algeria will be played next Tuesday.
Both Nkana and Zanaco will use this match as a perfect competitive friendly ahead of their CAF engangements, with the latter side also hosting Mbabane Swallows in a Champions League first round match.
The ‘bankers’ may have game fitness advantage going into the fixture having already set the ball rolling competitively in the preliminary rounds of the continental competition while Nkana was on bye in Confederation Cup and relied on series of friendly games in Zimbabwe and Kenya.
“We have achieved the objective in the Kenya outing. It has helped us in the area of scoring an away goal. This game will help us prepare for the next game'” said Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi.
It will be an opportunity for Nkana to try their new signings like Idris Mbombo, Gift Zulu and others in a competitive match.
Zanaco on the other hand seem to have found the right combination and won’t have the trial headaches.
The match signals the opening of the 2018 Super League season but it means more than that because of the rivalry between the teams and what lies ahead for both sides next week.
On Saturday, holders Zesco United take on NAPSA Stars in the other semi-final to decide who joins either Nkana or Zanaco in the final set for March 10.
