It’s wrong for Lungu to talk about printing of ballot papers’ when he’s an interested party – Siabutuba

YOUTH Development Organisation executive director Partner Siabutuba says the PF government is attempting to make the environment difficult for citizens to concentrate on assessing and analysing their performance in the delivery of services by subjecting them to early 2021 election campaign mode.

In an interview, Siabutuba said it had become clear now that President Edgar Lungu’s talk about where the 2021 ballot papers would be printed when it was supposed to be the Electoral Commission of Zambia spearheading such discussion was aimed at making citizens focus on elections as opposed to checking whether the government was delivering to their expectations.

“The PF government is attempting to make the environment difficult for citizens to concentrate on assessing and analysing their performance in the delivery of services by subjecting them to early 2021 election campaign mode,” Siabutuba said.

He said Zambians were aware that the PF government was trying to mask their dismal performance in fulfilling and delivering on their campaign promises.

Siabutuba said such manoeuvres had potential to create unnecessary anxiety and negative impact on performance of the civil service in the country.

“It is wrong for President Lungu to be talking about printing of ballot papers when he is an interested party in the electoral process and he is already interfering in the operations of ECZ by single sourcing Government Printers when all stakeholders must collectively agree,” said Siabutuba.
