SWIMMER Tilka Paljk was last night awarded the sports woman of the year at the 2018 Zambian Woman of the Year Awards.
This year’s Women of the Year awards which were hosted by founder, Karen Nakawala at the Government Complex in Lusaka, centered on celebrating women that are using their platforms to improve the lives of women everywhere.
In 2015, Paljk was named the 2014/2015 Swimmer of the Year by the Zambia Amateur Swimming Union and was awarded the 2013 Sports In Action [SIA] Young Sports Person of the Year award.
Her mother, Anita Fererro, and brother Andre are also swimmers.
…Thank you for everyone for making this night possible, with out you this wouldn’t be possible. @ Lusaka, Zambia,” Paljk posted on her Facebook page after receiving the award.
Others that were awarded include Mulenga Kapwepwe for the Cultural Ambassador Award while the Star in Zambia’s first Telenovela ‘ Zuba’ Mwaka Mugala won the Rising Star Award.
Meanwhile, Dolika Banda was named the woman of the year 2018.
Other trailblazers and icons who received awards include Healthcare Champion – Selina Lukonga, author – Ingrid Nayame, entrepreneur – Susan Mwenda Mulongoti, educator – Franchesca Mulenga, humanitarian -Rosemary Mumba, digital – Brenda Nglazi Zulu, media ambassador – Zarina Geloo, mentorship – Gladys Paswani, woman in film – Becky Ngoma, Creative – Cathy Phiri, community service – Ruth Chikasa, Songbird – Theresa Ng’ambi.
The activist award went to Laura Miti while lifetime achievement was scooped by Alice Chali with the special award going to Chilufya Mwaba Phiri.
And Policy Monitoring and Research Centre executive director Bernadette Deka got the Emerging Young Leader of the Year award.
