THE opposition National Democratic Congress security team yesterday sent away officers from the Office of the President who attempted to have access to Chishimba Kambwili at CFB Hospital where he is hospitalised.
When queried by the NDC security team who they were, the officers claimed that they were from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) but the opposition party’s security detail demanded for their identification cards.
Earlier, the officers had an altercation with Kambwili’s wife Carol who insisted that her husband be allowed to rest.
She said police presence was defeating the purpose of Kambwili’s recovery.
“You are supposed to be professional! Why are you here making noise? He is supposed to recover but what is this you are doing? Why are you bringing in all those people? This is not acceptable!” she complained.
Last evening, Chris Zumani Zimba, who is special advisor to Kambwili, issued a statement confirming that the Roan PF member of parliament and NDC consultant had been taken to a private medical institution after falling ill at Woodlands Police Station where he was detained after being charged with 39 counts of receiving money believed to be proceeds of crime, among other offences.
“Dr Kambwili is currently at CBF Hospital where he is being attended to by medical doctors. We appeal to all members and supporters of NDC countrywide to remain calm and keep our political consultant in prayers,” said Zimba.
