A 34 -YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka’s Meanwood Ibex Hill accused of shooting dead his girlfriend Precious Mangesana on Monday pleaded not guilty to murder and grievous bodily harm in the Lusaka High Court.
Nshinka Kaputu, who is also alleged to have caused grievous bodily harm to his two-year-old daughter who was with the deceased during the shooting, was arrested in October last year. The accused appeared before Lusaka High Court judge Catherine Phiri and denied the charges. Media reports indicate that the deceased died instantly but the child survived the shooting.
Judge Phiri, however, adjourned the matter to April 11 for commencement of trial. Before the same court, 33-year-old Lusaka businessman Peter Siwale denied shooting dead his wife and her alleged lover on July 27 last year.
Siwale is accused of shooting dead Charity Namukoko, his wife, and Andrew Chibeka whom he suspected was in a love affair with the former.
Judge Phiri set April 13 for trial.
Meanwhile, former police assistant commissioner Fred Hamaamba has pleaded not guilty to aggravated robbery before judge Phiri.
Hamaamba is alleged to have stolen a handbag worth K400.00 and K350.00 cash altogether valued at K750.00, the property of Elina Nyirenda on August 14, 2016, who was an employee of the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
It is further alleged that Hamaamba used actual violence on Nyirenda. In count two, Hamaamba is accused of stealing a Blackberry phone valued at K4, 000, the property of Emmanuel Simbeye, on the same day. Hamaamba was supposed to be jointly charged with Obvious Mwaliteta and others who were acquitted on the same charges but he was on the run.
Trial is set for April 16.
