POLICE in Mansa this morning picked up Chishimba Kambwili from KFM radio where he was having a programme.
Kambwili, the Roan PF member of parliament and NDC consultant, was in Luapula to drum up support for NDC candidates in the local government by-election.
As Kambwili was on air, some police officers arrived with a note to stop the programme but he resisted.
The officers then stormed the studio, ordering that the programme be halted.
“Why should you be following us, ba police fumeni muno (get out of here). We are discussing issues affecting the Zambian people, get out of here, get out of here,” Kambwili told the officers.
Kambwili then left the studio while telling off the officers over why they were following him everywhere he goes.
He got into his car and drove off.
The police, however, gave chase and blocked his car, firing a shot in the air.
His assistants at that point advised him to just go to the police station where officers questioned him.
Kambwili was questioned for about half an hour before being released to the jubilation of the people that surrounded the police station.
However, the officers told the former information minister that he would never be allowed to hold radio programmes in the province.
He was also told never to mention the name Luapula Province minister Nickson Chilangwa.
“They are scared like rats; why should they stop us from talking about issues affecting the country? We will not intimidated,” said Kambwili.
