PF cadres in Kadama yesterday ambushed NDC officials, beating up party secretary general Mwenya Musenge and Lombani Musichili at the barrier into the Northern Province headquarters.
The Kasama PF cadres closed the barrier in an effort to prevent National Democratic Congress consultant Chishimba Kambwili’s motorcade from entering, saying the opposition officials would be taught a lesson.
The cadres, who identified Musenge, said they wanted to deal with Kambwili for ‘insulting’ President Edgar Lungu on K-FM radio in Mansa the previews day.
But quick police action prevented further beating on Musenge and Musichili.
About 15 cadres were arrested and detained at Kasama Central Police but were not immediately charged as Kambwili and Musenge decided not to lay charges following a closed door meeting.
After the meeting in the police commissioner’s office, Kambwili begged for their release and counseled them to refrain from anarchy.
In the meeting mediated by Northern Province Commissioner of Police Richard Mweene , Musenge complained of harassment and PF violent behavior.
In submission, the PF leaders in the district gave their side but Kambwili interjected, warning them against disorder in a democratic dispensation.
A heated exchange of words was witnessed until Mweene called the two parties.
Kambwili told the gathering that his party would not continue to record a statement and therefore no charges would be entertained since there was an amicable discussion over the matter.
After leaving the police station, Kambwili proceed to greet NDC members in Kasama before proceeding to Mafinga in Muchinga Constituency.
