ZOOC raises $400,000 towards Zambia Open

THE 2018 Mopani/Redpath Zambia Open Organising Committee has raised US$400,000 of the targeted US$500,000 towards the hosting of the Zambia Open at Nkana Golf Club next week.
ZOOC chairperson Emmanuel Mutati disclosed this when he received two cheques worth US$25,000 each from Puma Energy Zambia and Reliant Mining at Nkana Golf Club on Tuesday.
“We want to pay particular tribute to Puma Energy. They have been a long-time partner. In 2013 you contributed greatly to the rehabilitation of the golf club and today this donation will go a long way towards meeting our target. I am pleased to announce that the Zambia Golf Union has given us the rights to host the Zambia Open for the next four years. This year will be the first and we sincerely hope we can build on this relationship for the coming years,” said Mutati.

And Puma Energy managing director Pinchi Simukwai pledged his company’s continued partnership with Nkana Golf Club.

“You will recall that in 2013 Puma Energy Zambia donated US$20,000 to Nkana Golf Club towards the golf course rehabilitation and upgrade of the club house. And in 2014 and 2015, Puma also came forward and sponsored a total of US$20,000 each year towards the Zambia Golf Open hosted by Mopani Copper Mines. Puma increased the sponsorship last year to US$25,000,” Simukwai said.

He said Puma has been in business partnership with Mopani for four decades.

“When the sponsorship manager Phil Harold approached my office last month and announced that Mopani Copper Mines is a major sponsor of this year’s Zambia Open to be hosted at this beautiful Nkana Golf Club, the board and management of Puma Energy Zambia made the decision to support Mopani in this endeavour. It is for this reason that Puma Energy Zambia is today making a donation of US$25,000 to the Zambia Open Organising Committee,” said Simukwai.
Meanwhile, Reliant Mining operations manager Nico Ernest said his company believed in investing in sport because it brought people together.

“Our partnership with MCM has enabled us to be one of the sponsors of this wonderful tournament and I would like to take this opportunity to thank MCM for their continuous and wonderful partnership we have had and look forward to many more years of it. We at Reliant always believe in investing in sport as we believe that sport is the only way which bring us all together irrespective of our different backgrounds and what better sport than golf? I would like to thank fellow sponsors of this tournament and urge them to give continuous support. Together we can achieve great things and make a difference in this society,” he said.

Mutati said: “We would like to sincerely thank Reliant Mining for the donation. This now takes us to US$400,000. It now puts us in a comfortable zone in our preparations.”
He remained confident that other sponsors would fulfil their pledges before the tournament starts.
