LOCAL government minister Vincent Mwale says Lusaka mayor Wilson Kalumba continued discharging his duties despite being unwell for some time.
Mwale announced Kalumba’s passing yesterday at a press briefing attended by deputy mayor Chilando Chitangala, permanent secretary Amos Malupenga and several councillors.
He said Kalumba, 54 died around 11:40 at the University Teaching Hospital.
“It is with a heavy heart that I wish to announce the passing on of the Mayor of Lusaka Mr Wilson Kalumba who passed on around 11:40 hours this morning here at the UTH. He was brought in around 06:00 hours,” Mwale said in a statement issued by council assistant public relations manager Brenda Katongola.
Mwale said the mayor had been unwell for some time and was on medication.
He said despite this, Kalumba continued discharging his duties.
“We will continue to inform the nation from time to time about the arrangements for the funeral. We wish his family, friends and the Lusaka City Council sincere condolences,” said Mwale.
