LEADERS Zesco United will be looking to extend their lead on top of the MTN/FAZ Super League table when they face troubled Red Arrows in a week 16 match at Nkoloma Stadium this afternoon. And second-placed Green Buffaloes will be hoping to consolidate their position on the log when they host improved New Monze Swallows in an early kick-off at Nkoloma Stadium.
Zesco blew the chance to run away from Buffaloes when they were held 1-1 in midweek in a rescheduled match by Kabwe Warriors to maintain a one point lead at the top. The defending champions of Ndola have 35 points with Buffaloes on 34 points going into today’s fixtures that pit the two teams into one arena facing different opponents.
Zesco’s opponents, Arrows, are in a more precarious situation and are awaiting punishment from FAZ for exhibiting one of the most archaic protests ever seen in world football when they walked off the pitch at Nkana Stadium last week, arguing that Nkana’s third goal in their 3-2 loss was scored from an offside position.
Arrows are 13th on the table and a win is a must this afternoon against one of the most difficult teams to come against in the league. A loss for the ZAF-sponsored side will see them drift into the relegation zone. Buffaloes, on the hand, face a tricky opponent considering Swallows’ massive improvement recently where they claimed a second league victory after beating Kabwe Warriors in their last fixture the previous weekend.
All the games will be broadcast live on Supersport.
