Our politics is full of hypocrites – Lungu

(By Charles Tembo and Natalie Ngosa)

PRESIDENT Edgar  Lungu has said Zambian politics is full of hypocrites. And President  Lungu says the opposition UPND should change its leader because Hakainde Hichilema will not take the party anywhere. Speaking on arrival in Ndola yesterday, President Lungu said there were shameless people without values who wanted to lead Zambia.

“I know that we are still mourning those colleagues of ours who passed away in that accident at the Black Mountain. My prayer is that, that was an accident and it happened but let’s not politicize it. What surprised me was that some of our own people in the political game who were agitating that we give our people the Black Mountain changed and attacked me. People that commended us that we did well turned around and said we were wrong,” President Lungu said.

“Zambian politics is full of hypocrites…shameless people without values who want to lead this country. The government has learnt a lesson from the tragedy of the Black Mountains and we will put in safety measures. What happened in 1970 in Mufulira was an accident…mine accidents, 89 miners died. We all mourned and the country was affected. The mine was closed for some time and after safety measures, mining continued. The people of Zambia should show togetherness and ensure that there is safety at the Black Mountain so that our people can continue to work.”

He said he  was not going to allow himself to be dragged into the politics of the Black Mountain.

“After all, we all become wiser after an event. So I won’t allow myself to be dragged into the politics of the Black Mountain. I am above that and I will ensure that we work together with the youths at the Black Mountain. I am not like those politicians after losing elections, they say fight back. I cannot explain why some politicians can tell their members to fight back when attacked – punch for punch and panga for panga. I want to assure the country that Zambia is for peace, PF is for peace…let’s have peace. UPND is busy telling its members to fight back. Who is attacking who?” President  Lungu asked.

“…because it’s true their leader in Lusaka was saying fight back in Chilanga; saying fight back, fight back who? I am appealing to the police that take charge of law and order wherever elections are taking place. I am telling the Minister of Finance to look for funds to fund the police. If they are not funded, look for money and fund them tomorrow so that they operate well. A fool can bring war and run, so sort out the fool before it brings war. I am telling the police to bring to book the fool that can bring war. Don’t wait for them to implement their intentions. They are ashamed of the elections in the past and again they are losing this election.”

He claimed that the UPND was not  going anywhere.

“We are watching the World Cup now and if a player is not playing well, substitute them. So I am challenging the UPND to look for a player to challenge me. That guy will not go anywhere because we now know his true nature. Democracy is that you report back to your team. I am sure UPND now know that they have been losing elections under one leader. They can’t go to a convention and give new leaders so they (are) bringing chaos in our country. So honorable (Stephen) Kampyongo (home affairs minister) (Kakoma) Kanganja (Police IG), take charge so that those who want to bring chaos and confusion are brought to book. Thank you very much,” said President  Lungu.

IT DEPENDS ON WHO YOU WERE LISTENING TO SIR, BECAUSE MOST OF US HIT OUT AT YOU THE MOMENT BLACK MOUNTAIN WAS GIVEN TO THE VOTE PROMISING JARABOES, SOME OF US EVEN SUGGESTED HOW BEST IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE YOUTH EMPOWERING NOT JARABO EMPOWERING BUT AS USUAL YOU CHOOSE TO LISTEN TO YOUR CRONIES AND TODAY YOU WANT US TO SHARE THE BLAME. NO SIR SHARE THE BLAME WITH YOU CRONIES
