Magistrate commits man to High Court for ‘conspiring to kill Mpezeni’

THE Chipata Magistrates’ Court has committed Paramount Chief Mpezeni’s subject Zenasi Dube to the High Court in a matter where he is charged with conspiracy to kill the traditional leader by means of witchcraft.

Magistrate Pauline Mulenga told Dube, 55 of Mwami border area that the court had received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions’ office and that she was committing the matter to the High Court for summary trial.

Magistrate Mulenga said the matter would come up in the next High Court sessions in Chipata.

Particulars of the offence are that Dube, on January 25, 2018, jointly and whilst acting together with another person unknown, conspired with intent to kill David Jere by means of witchcraft.

Dube was given K5,000 bail with two working sureties of fixed abode who should be residents of Chipata in the like sum but in their own recognisance.

He was, however, granted bail after he met the conditions.

The court has since extended Dube’s bail.
