NATIONAL Democratic Congress Central Province youth chairman Delkins Bwalya says President Edgar Lungu should let the law take its course on individuals cited in the Financial Intelligence Centre report. Bwalya urged President Lungu to show political will on corruption fight like his predecessor used to do and allow law enforcement agencies to deal with individuals in his government that are alleged to have misappropriated, misapplied and siphoned government resources.
He said the Head of State should show leadership and stop shielding government officials alleged to have been involved in corrupt activities.
“Now that State House has confirmed that the Financial Intelligence Centre report has been received, we expect President Edgar Lungu to show political will on corruption like his predecessor late president Michael Sata used to do. When some of his cabinet ministers were alleged to have been involved in corrupt activities, president Michael Sata used to drop his ministers in order to pave way for investigations. And we saw him dropping Ronald Chitotela and Rodgers Mwewa from their ministerial positions just to pave way for investigations,” Bwalya recalled.
“Likewise, we expect President Edgar Lungu to allow law enforcement agencies to deal with individuals in his government that are alleged to have misappropriated, misapplied and siphoned government resources. The Head of State should show leadership and stop shielding government officials alleged to have been involved in corrupt activities, so that people stop speculating about his leadership style.”
And Bwalya said that National Democratic Congress youths in Central Province want PF Roan member of parliament Chishimba Kambwili to contest the 2021 presidential elections on the party’s ticket. He said that this was because Kambwili had demonstrated political will to fight corruption across the board and was determined to uplift the living standards of young people in the country.
“As NDC youths in Central Province, we would like to echo the sentiments made by our party secretary general Mwenya Musenge that our preferred candidate for the 2021 presidential elections is Hounourable Dr Chishimba Kambwili,” Bwalya said. “Dr Kambwili has shown political will to fight corruption across the board. He has also demonstrated that he wants to uplift the living standards of young people across the country.
We know that the PF government has neglected the young people that voted for them by removing them from the streets where they were earning a living. They have thrown women and youths in abject poverty without offering alternative trading places and alternative ways of earning a living. These are some of the things that the NDC leadership wants to come and address once given the mandate to form government.”
Bwalya further urged the PF members not to perpetuate political violence in the forthcoming Lusaka mayoral by-election.
He noted that political violence had the potential to stimulate voter apathy among residents.
“The Lusaka mayoral by-election is winnable. We only hope that our colleagues in the PF will not engage in political violence so that all political parties can have a level playing field,” added Bwalya.
