Caristo Clear’s untimely death

Dear editor,

The untimely death of radio and television personality Caristo Chitamfya Jr., otherwise known as Caristo Clear, is a big blow not only to the Chitamfya family but the country at large.

I never had the opportunity to meet this vibrant young man but I still remember the day I received a call from him a couple years ago after I won a movie ticket through a QFM question and answer competition and he sounded like a nice fellow.

I cannot even begin to imagine the anguish the Chitamfya family has gone through after the tragic death of this productive young man.

Allow me to express my disappointment at people who have peddled lies and innuendos about the late Caristo Jr.

I personally found it sad and extremely infuriating that some people wrote and said negative things about this innocent young man.

Has our economy become so bad that it is not possible for a 24-year-old to own a Mercedes Benz? Does owning a Benz in Zambia now require some supernatural powers? And since when was owning a Mercedes Benz considered a benchmark for being wealthy?

The culture of associating wealth to satanism is fast becoming a worrying factor in Zambia. There is an unhealthy obsession with satanism especially among blithely Christians today. It is almost impossible for a day to pass without hearing someone accuse another of being a satanist.

We need to fight this culture as it is not only dangerous but retrogressive.

May the soul of Caristo and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in eternal peace.
