A CHOMA based clergyman says politicians are now no longer ashamed to use the pulpit in the church to tell lies to hungry and poverty stricken people. In an interview, Reverend Sialumba Siamoongwa said it was blasphemy for politicians to defile the sanctity of church pulpits to propagate lies whenever there were elections.
“Politicians are now no longer ashamed to use the pulpit in the church to tell lies to hungry and poverty stricken people. In church, we need deliverance and healing and not campaign lies from politicians,” Rev Siamoongwa said.
He warned that the church risked losing its voice by giving a platform to politicians to deliver lies whenever they attend services.
He said the church should not mess up itself by allowing politicians to manipulate it by standing firm on the true gospel.
Rev Siamoongwa pointed out that it was the duty of the church to defend the country and its dignity as children of God from crooked and corrupt politicians who wanted to divide the nation across tribal lines.
“Please politicians, don’t come to our churches to manipulate us on who you want us to vote for because that has potential to divide the house of God between real Christians and those for individuals like we have Christians for Lungu in Zambia,” he said.
Rev Siamoongwa urged the church to wake up and reject political abuse and seduction by developing a spirit of neutrality to inspire many and standing firm on the gospel teachings of morals as well as integrity.
He said it was unfortunate that poverty had compromised the church to an extent where some men of the collar have chosen to use the pulpit to propagate their political agenda instead of being the light to guide and rebuke politicians whenever they go wrong.
