ECONOMICS Association of Zambia has elected Dr Lubinda Haabazoka as its president.
Dr Haabazoka, a University of Zambia economics lecturer, was elected at the association’s elective annual general meeting held at COMESA headquarters in Lusaka on Friday.
Dr Haabazoka is current Director of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Zambia and he is a former senior lecturer of Accounting, Economics and Finance at the Copperbelt University.
He takes over from Dr Chrispin Mphuka – Head of Economics Department at the University of Zambia – who did not recontest the position.
According to results of the election, Dr Haabazoka polled 145 votes against Trevor Hambayi’s 29 votes and Shula Kampamba’s 4 votes to become the association’s president.
Meanwhile, Dr Austin Mutepuka Mwange is the association’s deputy president.
Mutisunge Zulu was elected national secretary; Dr Valentine Mwanza as national treasurer; Dr Kwesi Sakyi as national deputy treasurer while Philippe Masengo, Benson Mwelili and Lubinda Sinyani are the new committee members.
