Venezuela: PSUV Ratifies Maduro Presidency

We have “absolute confidence in comrade Nicolas Maduro,” said the PSUV’s first vice-president, Diosdado Cabello.

The Venezuelan Socialist Party of Venezuela, or PSUV, ratified, “by acclamation,” Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as the new leader of the political party, the proclamation was made during a working session of its IV congress.

Maduro was “appointed and ratified as president of the PSUV” after a decision by the party’s general assembly according to first vice-president, Diosdado Cabello.

The measure also provided Maduro with “all the faculties, powers, and authority necessary for him to take decisions in the sense of appointing the national leadership” of the PSUV, as well as any other “organizational matters” that “are necessary for the strengthening of the party and the revolution.”

Cabello said that the decision was taken “to ensure that during the four years, which will be defined by a hard war against our people, the PSUV will be up to the occasion.”

We have “absolute confidence in comrade Nicolas Maduro,” Cabello concluded.

Maduro later joined the session and thanked his constituents for ratifying him as leader of the “(Hugo) Chavez party.”

“I thank you for the loyalty…count on my absolute and maximum commitment to deliver it every day,” said the Venezuelan president.
