CHIEF Chipepo says President Edgar Lungu and Hakainde Hichilemba are not yet ready to be reconciled.
Chipepo has also said the House of Chiefs and the three church mother bodies have the capacity to deliver an effective and credible dialogue process even without the involvement of Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID).
Chipepo has further urged the opposition UPND to forget about the 2016 election petition and look for what is workable at the moment because the 2021 general elections will be more tougher.
In an interview, Chipepo observed that President Lungu and Hichilema were not yet ready to be reconciled.
He said the spirit of vengeance had grown in them “no wonder the church as well as the House of Chiefs were better placed to broker the dialogue process” between them than a political organisation.
“The House of Chiefs and the three church mother bodies can deliver an effective and credible dialogue process even without the involvement of ZCID. You see these two brothers have pride, no wonder ZCID cannot manage them,” he said.
Chipepo said since 2016, to date, both the PF and UPND had concentrated on politicking thereby hindering prospects of development.
He said ordinary Zambians did not want to see the current term of office to end on politicking.
The chief warned those in government to remember that 2021 was around the corner and that Zambians would be quick to label them as non-performers and not listening if they were not careful.
Chipepo said in leadership, “when one leads the people to God then definitely the lord will be with him and if he leads them the other ways then calamities befall the nation.”
“I have never seen Zambians being quiet as they are now which is an indication that they will talk through the vote in 2021. So if the PF continues on the path of politicking, they will have themselves to blame in 2021. People nowadays are very analytical even if someone tries to hide, they will know,” he said.
Chipepo said Zambians could not afford to go into the 2021 elections with the current strife hence the need for President Lungu and Hichilema to swallow their pride and work together.
And chief Chipepo urged the UPND to concentrate on preparing for the 2021 elections than wasting resources in fighting the 2016 disputed elections in courts of law.
He said in politics, there were no permanent enemies no wonder politicians were able to cross from one political party to another in search of greener pastures.
“Let the UPND take heart and bury the past, people now just want peace in the country, so chances of things going their way are slim and some of these politicians fighting them today will join them in 2021 if they win the elections,” said Chipepo.
