CHIPOLOPOLO coach Sven Vandenbroek says he is convinced Zambia will qualify to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations despite the 1-all draw against Namibia on Saturday. Vandenbroek said the appetite to qualify to the AfCON was there and that next month’s Group K qualifier against Guinea-Bissau would be important.
“I think the October game is crucial and I am almost sure that what we did in training was a start. But even if we drew on Saturday, I am still convinced that qualifying is possible and not even possible but we will manage,” he said.
Vandenbroek also hailed the impact of the substitutes in Saturday’s qualifier that saw Justin Shonga, Enock Mwepu and Lubambo Musonda almost turn the tie on its head to rally from a goal down.
“The substitutes did very well. I always know that everyone is your friend until the moment you make your best team, there are always some guys unhappy and I understand because I was a player,” said Vandenbroek, according to fazfootball.com.
“But they were not disappointed the moment they came in. They just added some more power that gave us the extra step to equalise so that was also a perfect move of the total list, to keep on playing for the team.”
