THE Zambia women national team have settled in their environs at the Coega Sports Complex in Port Elizabeth and got down to business on Monday afternoon. The team is intensifying preparations ahead of the 2018 COSAFA Women Championship, which kicks off today.
Coach Beauty Mwamba, technical advisor Bruce Mwape and goalkeeper trainer Yona Phiri took the players through the paces at the complex.
The team will be skippered by Misozi Zulu while Barbara Banda is the deputy captain. Zambia opens its Group B account with a match against Lesotho at Wolfson Stadium on Thursday afternoon, followed by a tie with guest team Cameroon at the same venue on Saturday.
The final group match will be against Mozambique next Tuesday. The three group winners will qualify to the semi-finals with one best loser in the three batches. Zambia reaped bronze at the 2017 edition held in Zimbabwe. Mwamba is using the COSAFA championship as a part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana in November.
